Esperanza Azteca is an award-winning youth orchestra that supports, educates, and gives students aged 7-21 a safe place to go after school. There is a constant struggle in Ciudad Juárez due to poverty and the influence of drug cartels. This El Sistema inspired youth orchestra program has helped thousands of young people in Ciudad Juárez elevate themselves from a life of crime to one of hope and prosperity.
Due to changes in government administration and challenges with COVID-19, the Esperanza Azteca program in Ciudad Juárez has completely lost their funding. Staff has been working for months without pay and if the organization cannot find other sources of income, they will be forced to close the doors by December 2020, with the possibility of this live-saving orchestra to go extinct forever.
