2023 Performance Dates

Wednesday, August 16, Borderlands Ensemble: New Voices. New compositions by Nubia Jaime Donjuan (Hermosillo, Mexico), Edwin Guevara Gutierrez (Bogotá, Columbia), Jorge Sosa Ortega (New York, NY), and Barbara White (Princeton, NJ). 7pm at Academy Village.

2022 Performance Dates

Sunday, August 21, Borderlands Ensemble: Agave Soundscapes with Dr. Luis Coronado Guel. Music and narrative exploring the history of mezcal, including new compositions by Nubia Jaime Donjuan (Hermosillo, Mexico) and Michael Leibowitz (Philadelphia, PA) inspired by Mexico and the Sonoran Desert, plus music and images from the golden age of Mexican cinema. 5pm at The Century Room at Hotel Congress. Tickets are $25 for the concert, followed by optional mezcal tasting event including light bites ($55 for concert and tasting). More info and Tickets HERE.

Wednesday, August 31, Arizona Wind Quintet: Dream States recital featuring music by Reena Esmail, Mario LaVista, and former UA student Colin Nossek. 7pm at Holsclaw Hall on the University of Arizona campus. Free. More info HERE.

Saturday, October 22, Borderlands Ensemble and Galeria Mitotera present mini sidewalk concerts in South Tucson. More dates coming soon! Free and family friendly.

Sunday, October 23, Borderlands Ensemble: Día de los Muertos Tertulia with Dr. Luis Coronado Guel. Music and narrative are woven together to tell the stories of the traditions of Día de los Muertos. 6pm at the historic El Casino Ballroom in South Tucson. $5 Tickets, with a family ticket option as well. Saturday, April 23 and Sunday, April 24, Tucson Symphony Orchestra: chamber concert that includes Mozart’s Horn Quintet for horn and strings. 7:30 pm and 2pm at the Tucson Symphony Center.

Saturday, April 30, Dr. Keith Johnson Memorial Concert: A concert honoring former UA faculty member Dr. Johnson’s will include performances by the Arizona Wind Quintet, faculty members Johanna Lundy and Yunah Lee, Regents’ Professor Emerita Paula Fan, and the University of Arizona Horn Choir and Alumni. 3pm at Crowder Hall at the University of Arizona Fred Fox School of Music. Free.

Friday, May 21, Borderlands Ensemble: Concierto en la Frontera: Lugar e Identidad, part of UNAM-Tucson’s First International Convening of the Sciences, Arts, and Humanities. Saturday, October 16, Borderlands Ensemble. 8-10pm at Saint Charles Tavern in Tucson, AZ. Masks not required, outdoor performance. 21 and over.

Sunday, October 24, Borderlands Ensemble. 1-3pm at Tohono Chul Park in Tucson, AZ. Masks required. Outdoor performance. Free with Tohono Chul Park admission ($15 adult, $6 child).

Friday, October 8, Video Premiere: Songs and Arias by Vivian Fine. Performance by the Borderlands Ensemble. Original animation by Shiang Hwang. 6pm PDT, watch HERE.

Saturday, October 9, Music+ Festival: Solo horn performance featuring music by two of Nadia Boulanger’s students: Jane Vignery and Jean Francaix. 2:30pm, Holsclaw Hall, The University of Arizona Fred Fox School of Music, Tucson, AZ.

Thursday, October 21, Celebrating Progress: The Arizona Wind Quintet presents music celebrating the centennial of the passage of the 19th amendment, which granted women the right to vote. Despite the ratification of this amendment, women of color continued to struggle for decades to access the ballot box. Learn more in this interactive lecture-performance. Music by Amy Beach, Elinor Warren, Valerie Coleman, and a world premiere by UA faculty member, Kay He. 7pm, Holsclaw Hall, The University of Arizona Fred Fox School of Music, Tucson, AZ.
